In the previous article of the series “VMware Training. Year 2023″ we considered a list of training programs in the direction of Multi-Cloud: VMware vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager.
Today we will talk about the main training programs in the field Multi-Cloud: VMware vRealize Automation.
VMware vRealize Automation
VMware vRealize Automation is a modern infrastructure automation platform that increases productivity and agility by reducing complexity and eliminating manual or semi- manual tasks.
The main current training programs for VMware vRealize Automation technologies are:
● VMware vRealize Automation: Install, Configure, Manage [V8.3].
- Duration: 5 days.
- Level of difficulty: Intermediate (L300).
- Target audience: Experienced system administrators and system integrators responsible for designing and implementing vRealize Automation.
- Prerequisites: This course requires completion of one of the following courses:
- VMware vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage;
- VMware vSphere: Fast Track.
- Experience working at the command line is helpful.
- This course requires that a student be able to perform the following tasks with no assistance or guidance before enrolling in this course:
- Create VMware vCenter Server objects, such as data centers and folders;
- Create a virtual machine using a wizard or a template;
- Modify a virtual machine’s hardware;
- Migrate a virtual machine with VMware vSphere vMotion;
- Migrate a virtual machine with VMware vSphere Storage vMotion;
- Configure and manage a vSphere DRS cluster with resource pools;
- Configure and manage a VMware vSphere High Availability cluster.
- If you cannot perform all of these tasks, VMware recommends that you complete one of the prerequisite courses before enrolling in VMware vRealize Automation: Install, Configure, Manage.
During this five-day course, you focus on installing, configuring, and managing VMware vRealize Automation. You learn about how vRealize Automation can be used to automate the delivery of virtual machines, applications, and personalized IT services across different data centers and hybrid cloud environments.
The course covers how to manage both on-premise systems and cloud services. The course covers how vRealize Automation Service Broker can aggregate content in native formats from multiple clouds and platforms into a common catalog.
This course also covers interfacing vRealize Automation with other systems using VMware vRealize Orchestrator and how to use vRealize Automation to manage Kubernetes systems and leverage other systems. The course also covers integrating with Terraform and using SaltStack as a configuration management tool.
This course makes heavy use of hands-on labs. Students can run 39 labs during the 5-day course.
● VMware vRealize Automation: Advanced Features and Troubleshooting [V8.x].
- Duration: 5 days.
- Level of difficulty: Advanced (L400+).
- Target audience: Experienced system administrators and system integrators responsible for using the advanced features of vRealize Automation in enterprise deployments.
- Prerequisites: This course requires completion of the following course:
- VMware vRealize Install Configure Manage [V8.x].
- Experience working at the command line is helpful.
- This course requires that a student be able to perform the following tasks with no assistance or guidance before enrolling in this course:
- Create VMware vCenter Server® objects, such as data centers and folders;
- Create a virtual machine using a wizard or a template;

This is a five-day course that is a follow-on to the VMware vRealize Automation Install, Configure, Manage course. In this course, you go deeper into using the advanced features of vRealize Automation to deploy user systems and interface vRealize Automation with other platforms. The course covers deploying and enterprise level cluster environment using VMware vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager.
This course makes heavy use of hands-on labs. Students can run 41 labs during the 5-day course.
● VMware vRealize Automation: Orchestration and Extensibility [V8.6]
- Duration: 5 days.
- Level of difficulty: Advanced (L400+).
- Target audience: Experienced VMware administrators, automation and orchestration specialists, system integrators, and private cloud and public cloud administrators.
- Prerequisites: This course requires the following prerequisites:
- Knowledge of VMware vSphere;
- VMware vRealize Automation: Install, Configure, Manage [V8.3] course or equivalent knowledge;
- Working knowledge of scripting or programming using JavaScript, Windows PowerShell, Perl, Java, Python, or similar languages. All code is provided during class.
During this five-day course, you focus on using VMware vRealize Orchestrator to extend the functionality of VMware vRealize Automation. You learn how to provide XaaS (Anything as a Service) and implement Machine Lifecycle Extensibility using the VMware vRealize Automation Event Broker. You also learn how to create vRealize Orchestrator workflows and vRealize Automation ABX actions. You learn about various features, including basic scripting implementation along with logic processing to implement a variety of functions to use in your environment. This course teaches implementing debugging, loops, conditions, and user interactions in vRealize Orchestrator.
The course introduces the new vRealize Orchestrator HTML 5 interface, along with API calls and REST functions, to give you the groundwork to implement a variety of plugins and scripts. This course is designed to give you the tools to craft custom solutions in the product.
● VMware vRealize Automation: Design and Deploy [V7.6].
- Duration: 5 days.
- Level of difficulty: Advanced.
- Target audience: Senior Administrators, Implementers & Consultants, Architects.
- Prerequisites: This class requires understanding the concepts and topics presented in the following courses:
- VMware vSphere: Install, Configure, Manage [V6.x];
- VMware vRealize Automation: Install, Configure, Manage [V7.x].
This five-day course focuses on designing and deploying an enterprise cloud by using a distributed architecture deployment of VMware vRealize Automation. This course discusses the benefits and risks of available design alternatives and provides information that helps in making sound design decisions. You follow a proven approach to design and deploy an enterprise cloud that is available, scalable, manageable, secure, and that is built according to VMware best practices. During this class, you apply your new knowledge by working with other participants to design and deploy a vRealize Automation solution for a real-world project.
● VMware vRealize Automation: Troubleshooting [V8.6].
- Duration: 3 days.
- Level of difficulty: Advanced (L400+).
- Target audience: Experienced system administrators and cloud administrators who are already familiar with vRealize Automation.
- Prerequisites: Before taking this course, you should have completed the VMware vRealize Automation: Install, Configure, Manage [V8.3] course.
- You should also have the following understanding or knowledge:
- Good understanding of managing and working with various Linux and Windows operating systems;
- Knowledge and working experience of VMware vSphere environments;
- Basic scripting skills in JavaScript, YAML, and cloudConfig.
- You should also have the following understanding or knowledge:
This three-day, hands-on training course provides you with the advanced knowledge, skills, and tools to achieve competency in troubleshooting VMware vRealize Automation. vRealize Automation can be used to automate the delivery of virtual machines, applications, and personalized IT services across different data centers and hybrid cloud environments. This course will enable you to troubleshoot common problems with hands on lab problems.
● VMware vRealize Automation SaltStack Config: Deploy
and Manage [V8.4].
- Duration: 3 days.
- Level of difficulty: Intermediate (L300).
- Target audience: System Operator, System Administrator, System Integrator.
- Prerequisites: Before taking this course, you should have completed the VMware vRealize® Automation: Install, Configure, Manage [V8.3] course.
- You should also have the following understanding or knowledge:
- Good understanding of managing and working with various Linux and Windows operating systems;
- Knowledge and working experience of VMware vSphere environments.
- You should also have the following understanding or knowledge:
This three-day, hands-on training course provides you with the advanced knowledge, skills, and tools to achieve competency in deploying and using VMware vRealize Automation SaltStack Config. SaltStack Config is a powerful software configuration management component available in VMware vRealize Automation. With SaltStack Config you can easily define optimized, secure software states and enforce them across your entire environment, including virtualized, hybrid, or public cloud systems.
In this course, you are introduced to configuration management and how SaltStack Config can install software, maintain system configurations, change systems immediately with scalable remote execution, and automatically correct configuration problems in deployed virtual applications.
● VMware vRealize Automation SaltStack SecOps: Deploy and Manage [V8.6].
- Duration: 2 days.
- Level of difficulty: Intermediate (L300).
- Target audience: Security administrators who are responsible for using SaltStack SecOps to manage the security operations in their enterprise.
- Prerequisites: You should have the following understanding or knowledge:
- Basic Linux administration skills;
- Basic Windows administration skills;
- Knowledge and working experience of VMware vSphere environments.
This two-day, hands-on training course provides you with the advanced knowledge, skills, and tools to achieve competency in using VMware vRealize Automation SaltStack SecOps. SaltStack SecOps allows you to scan your system for compliance against security benchmarks, detect system vulnerabilities, and remediate your results. This course enables you to create the SaltStack SecOps custom compliance libraries and use SaltStack SecOps. In addition, this course provides you with the fundamentals of how to use VMware vRealize Automation SaltStack Config to install software and manage system configurations.
